Dhani Jones and Polk Laffoon, friends and fierce supporters of The Queen City, sit down to discuss Colson Whitehead’s The Underground Railroad. Winner of the 2016 National Book Award for Fiction, this electrifying, suspenseful tale of escape and pursuit combines elements of fantasy and the counter-factual with an unflinching, often brutal, and painfully truthful depiction of American slavery.
Dhani Jones is an entrepreneur, former NFL linebacker (four seasons as a Cincinnati Bengal), TV host, author, venture capitalist, and adventurer. He is the co-founder of Bow Ties for a Cause and lives in Cincinnati.
Journalist, avid reader of contemporary fiction, volunteer and Native Cincinnatian, Polk Laffoon IV moved back to Cincinnati after a long career with Knight Ridder Newspapers. He is on the board of the Cincinnati Art Museum and Cincinnati Parks foundation.
