Scenes in the Stacks
A New Film Series at The Mercantile Library
The series debut focuses on the intersection of libraries and movies. Both the cinema and library facilitate our hunger for stories and The Breakfast Club (1985) and Desk Set (1957) do not fail in marrying these two powerful storytelling mediums. A discussion will follow each screening, led by Peter Niehoff, avid cinephile and Ph.D History candidate at the University of Cincinnati.
March 3: Desk Set
A 1957 romantic comedy starring Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy. Possibly the least known of their on-screen pairings, Desk Set revolves around the age-old workplace challenges of technology, change, and the fear of pink slips.
